India is focusing on sustainable energy for a sustainable world.
Power generation from coal is indispensable for India’s development and India is pursuing a low carbon growth strategy through adoption of clean coal technologies, efficiency improvement of existing power plant, higher focus on renewable energy, energy conservation, etc. to achieve a sustainable future for the world. R&D conference on Sustainable Energy was organized by NTPC Ltd. On 31st March and 1st April 2016 chaired by Shri Gurdeep Singh, CMD. He opined that the conference would be useful in deciding the future strategy for sustainable energy in India.
The distinguished participants for the R&D conference were delegates from NITI Ayog, AEC, TERI, IGCAR, etc., and from companies like ABB, Siemens, NTPC, PGCIL, EIL, KPMG, BHEL, etc. Delegates from CGCRI, CREDA, scientists and academicians from IITs, IIMs, CSIR laboratories were also present.
The sessions were organized to focus on the research in the areas of fossil fuels, solar energy, wind energy, thermal energy, etc., the challenges concerning them like grid integration and way ahead. The individual sessions were chaired by the experts in the areas of Process Integration technologies in power plants, need for Advanced Metallurgy, Nano technology, and to discuss the Climate Change, Bio-fuel and Geothermal energy scenarios, Ash utilization opportunities in India. Delegates from the renowned bodies like IEX, KPMG and faculties from IIMs deliberated on the economics behind the technologies and their potential in India.
