NTPC to set up 50 MW LNG Project in Andaman

Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi laid the Foundation Stone of the 50 MW LNG Based Power Project on 30th December, 2018 at Hope Town, South Andaman. The 50 MW LNG based power plant to be established by wholly owned subsidiary of NTPC Limited – NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam (NVVN) is expected to significantly improve the quality of life of the residents of Andaman and Nicobar Islands and give a boost to economic development in the area. To be set up at cost of Rs. 387.80 Crore, the plant will take approx. 18 months to be operational after Award of work.
The plant shall be Operational through Dual Fuel - LNG or HSD to be sourced from Floating Storage Regasification Unit (FSRU) and High Speed Diesel (HSD) to be sourced from Indian Oil Corporation’s (IOCL) existing Depot at Andaman and Nicobar as per requirement.
Shri Manoj Sinha, Union Minister of State (I/C) for Communication and Minister of State for Railways; Admiral Devendra Kumar Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.) Lt. Governor; Shri Bishnu Pada Ray, Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha and dignitaries from the Union Territory were present on the occasion. Shri Gurdeep Singh, CMD, NTPC, Officials from Electricity Department of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Ministry of Power, NTPC and NVVN were present during the programme.
Government of India through Ministry of Power has entrusted NTPC with the responsibility of providing clean and environmentally sustainable power solutions for these islands. NTPC has already set up a 5 MW Solar PV at Andaman & Nicobar and is in the process of establishing another 25 MW Solar PV project with battery backup.
LNG is a cleaner fuel which shall help preserve the natural beauty of Andaman and Nicobar islands while meeting the base load requirements of the islands. This plant shall be equipped with State-of-the-Art Air, Water and Noise Pollution Control Systems to minimize environmental impact.
NTPC is the largest Power Utility of the country. Company generates power through its coal, gas, solar, hydro and wind power stations at various locations across the country with an installed capacity of more than 53000 MW.
